Which Finder Scope

Looking at adding a finder scope to the TEC160FL. Question is do I go with the Baader Planetarium Vario 10x60 recommended by TEC or maybe the Tak 7x50 or is there a better finder scope I haven't considered?

How good are the Vario finder scopes. I note you can get these either straight through or right angle.

Hi Hans. I have the vario on my TEC140 and I love it. I have 2 adapters that allow it to be a guide scope. I just use it to align. Views through it a very sharp. The 2 adapters cost me roughly 25 US dollars from Astro-physics.

Thanks Mark, So you have the straight through version without the 45 degree erecting prism.

I run an older Vixen 60mm S as a finderscope, I find the best thing about it (other than the easy single ring adjustment) is the ability to use a 45 degree correct image prism. This angle is just perfect for using it at almost any orientation of a large refractor. If I did not have this Vixen, I would not hesitate to get the Baader vario.

Endless choices IMHO.

Many years ago I converted two telephoto lenses to finder duty - the first was a Takumar 135mm, with a 20mm kellner behind that. Later I used a 500mm f/8 mirror lens - very stubby thing, 60mm aperture, worked beautifully for many years.

Now I'm using a 70mm APO as a finder which I feel is ideal.
