And the first widefield pics from me
Managed to get my 5D on top of my 80mm.
On the pic with orion at the bottom left, that tiny clump of red to rightish center of the picture, is that the flame nebula?
All three shots are with the 135/2 at around f/3.5 from memory, at 1600 or 3200 iso for 30secs - not up to stacking yet! I gave the 35/1.4 a try briefly but it is too wide for where I have the camera, the scope was getting in the shot! I didn't bother doing any dark frame subtraction as the 5D is pretty decent at 30secs.
I'm picking up the remote to do bulb exposures tomorrow, so expect the clouds to come rolling in.
cheers
Gav

Great shots! You've not only captured the flame nebula but also IC 434 fanning out to the left of Zeta Orionis and the horsehead nebula as a faint indentation in it. Capturing this in a 30sec exposure is pretty damn good.

Well done, Gav! I enjoyed the depth in the background starfields, and sharpness of first two images.
Look out folks, there's a new kid in town!!

cheers h0ughy. yeah they are at 3200 iso mostly i think as i was limited to 30secs so wanted to suck in as much light as i could but thats got the side effect of a bit of noise.
I have my remote now for bulb exposures so i can now use some more realistic iso settings which should give better results noise wise, and the lower iso's will help with dynamic range and colour as well.
It looks promising though.
thanks
Gav

awesome, thanks I'll use that next time it's clear. I did a test stack and it aligned the 2 pics perfectly, looks pretty smart.

I think the red dot on the right of eps Ori is the star HD 290660, it seems to be brighter than normal.
The flame neb is also visible to the top right of zet Ori.

You're off to a great start Gav.
You should try and come to Lostock, you'll love it.

Andrew, since I bought the remote to do bulb exposures it's been cloudy every day! If I went to lostock I'd drag the clouds with me
