NGC 6188 in Narrowband

Hi all, this is my first narrow band effort where I feel I have made some progress with getting a reasonable colour palette. I know I have a way to go but it is quite exciting to take a good step forward. Previously I was stuck on Ha dominated salmon coloured images. For this image I collected more OIII and SII data than Ha data and I balanced the levels when stretching to get a more balanced starting point. I also used Ricks colour script for processing which helped me tweak colours once I worked out how to use it. (I am slow to pick up anything to do with Pixinsight)

About 32hrs of data used in this image with 20min subs. 5hrs Ha, 12hrs OIII, 15hrs SII.

I discarded about another 21hrs of data as seeing has been poor to average lately.

FSQ106 with SBIG STT8300. Processed in Pixinsight.

Very nice image Brett - I really like the framing and colours It looks like a dragon is furiously coming down from the top right with fully open wings, perhaps protecting its egg (NGC6164-5) ?

With 32 hours of data I think it would be interesting to try drizzle integration. Funny you mentioned poor seeing lately and discarding 21 hours - 17 hrs acquired recently is all I had for this area so I needed to keep every single sub, including subs with beautiful bright plane and satellite trails

Appreciate the comments. I am putting some effort into the framing as I tend to do quite a few hours on each target so it is a lot of wasted time if the framing is not good. I have been using a program called Aladin. It gives you a reasonable view of the area of interest and I can plan the best way to fit the object in in terms of where the centre co-ordinates should be and what orientation. Then it is a matter of shooting some short subs and tweaking to get it right before committing to the imaging run. I also use Sequence Generator Pro Mosaic Wizard to frame (even if I am only doing one frame) but often the image from the database they use is not too good and it is difficult to see exactly what you are framing so I use Aladin to help out.

I've used Aladin for photometric research, didn't consider it for framing though.

You probably already know, but the SGP mosaic wizard often initially gives quite a "blown out" image - you can significantly improve contrast of the downloaded image with the Histogram sliders. I certainly wasn't smart enough to figure this out the first couple of times
