Out of action for a while
Hi Guys,
My worst nightmare has arrived.
All my gear has been stolen out of my observatory.
yep that includes my brand new STL11000 with Astrodon filters.
I am not going to go into the details.
I am not happy....Im taking up a less frustrating hobby such as knitting.

Oh god Im so sorry to hear that. I thought I had it bad with a busted LXD75 mount. That sounds like the sort of things that go on over here. I hope they catch them.

Tony I can not belive that
Astro gear is normaly safe to a point. As its hard to sell. Once stolen who would buy it other than other astro people. Then the crooks would get caught, as word is out on the stolen goods.
I'm so sorry and mad at the same time. Best of luck Tony and I hope who ever has done this is caught asap.
Nothing more one can say. All the best.

That's ****ed Tony..... there are some mongrels around!
I hope your gear is returned somehow, or at least is covered under insurance.
Mike - can't we be allowed to write profanities in this thread??? Called for I think!

Ahh Tony, I feel gutted for you mate. That is the total pits. I'd really like to express how I feel about thieves but it would be filtered out.

burglars
That's terrible, Tony. I really feel for you. That really is the pits... Just hope you have some sort of insurance. I wonder if your stuff will turn up on ebay?? When I was a child, we had a burglary whilst we were on holiday. The Police caught the burglar, and when the court case came around, he had the cheek to appear in the dock wearing my father's favourite crocodile shoes! You can guess my dad's reaction!
Just hope it will turn up undamaged...

Hey Tony,
My sympathy is with you mate . I really hope you get your kit back.
Keep an eye out in local newspapers and trading posts etc. Some of the items you have are not readily available such as the STL so should be easily identifiable.
I had a friend that had his LX90 stolen. He kept checking the local newspapers and internet daily. After two months, he came across the guy with his scope. The seller had purchased it unaware that it was stolen. A few calls to the police found the offenders. Turned out to be two youths from a local school.
I have no time for these thieving deplorable people.

That's low Tony, I hope your insurance covers the loss, or that the offenders get caught. When (or if) you restock, a security system would be a good idea, they're not expensive and can easily be programmed to notify your mobile if set off.

Thank guys,
Security will be my highest priority once the gear is replaced.
Are you allowed Indiana Jones style cave traps in a observatory....something that will slice you clean in half would be nice then pepper them with poisionous darts to then fall into a pit of razor sharp swords.

Oh man that's bad news!
What can you say??? I'm sure nothing any of us could say compares to what you're feeling!
Mate, I hope you get it back undamaged or adequately recompensed ASAP.
That just sucks...
Al.

Hi Tony, that is so low I can't describe it. I hope there is a speedy recovery of the stolen items and the offenders end up behind bars.

Wow. Man that completely pushes my buttons on about a dozen different levels.
Really not happy to read this, Tony. Honestly mate.
I can't understand what sort of variety of thief targets astro gear?
We're a big family here at IIS and I'm sure we'll all keep a bloody keen eye out for anything vaguely resembling your gear.
I'm at a bit of a loss, actually. It's never occured to me astro stuff would even raise a twitch among the scum set.
Ridiculous. That's the chord it strikes with me.
Many sympathies. Hope it's all up and running soon.
If it's any consolation, I'll place the first order for a scarf once you've got the knitting caper under control

This is the sort of thing we all fear...Astronomy equipment is only of use to us. I would hope that the local community of astronomy minded enthusiasts will be aware and looking for the 'For Sale' sign to go up. Can you give us a better description of what is gone,? I will look in on 'Trade Me' and E-bay. Only idiots would put them there... Only idiots would steal a telescope.
