Return of the Wooly Mammoth

I don't know if any of you already know about this as the report is dated 12 months ago, but here is the link to it anyway.

They can, theoretically, bring back the Wooly Mammoth, but before they do they have to weigh up the 'Ethical' issues.

Hmmm, interesting.

Poor future mammoth, it might be commoditised to extinction within a century upon revival if current resource trends prevail.

Officially, scientists estimate that the mammoth died out around 10,000 years ago, but I have read a discussion paper which suggested that they were still around as early as 5000 years ago in the then remote and unexplored areas of the arctic circle.
The age was as a result of dating cave paintings and was unsubstantiated but it does seem plausible.
It would be nice to see them roaming the earth again, they looked like a very majestic animal

cheers

i feel sorry for any mammoth they bring back.... they'd have to put them somewhere at the north pole where they'd have toput up with climate change and a shrinking habitat....

hang on, thats why they are extinct

Ving & Houghy, I agree with your thoughts. My reasoning was that if we were to bring back an animal as majestic as a mammoth it may stimulate the worlds goverments into doing something to further conservation and halt the greenhouse effect to protect it.
However this is probably wishful thinking on my behalf

cheers

I was using 'Google Images' with Harry coz he wanted to see what a Gnu was, and we started looking at Prehistoric animals. The I noticed a great image of a Mammoths Head and went to have a look at the link. Hence the site I found.

P.S. I agree with Vingo the Dingo too. The poor things alternative is to become Zoo freaks. Leave em dead methinks.

Hi all

The worst thing about bringing the Mammoth back - is that mankind will find a way to exploit it.

Cheers Petra
