Binos work out

I am back up North ...my "kids" "Star party" was after candles by candel light and fortunately I did not nave to run it..the Kids were burnt out after a long day as were the parents I still have jet lag from the drive up from Sydney ..and as I was "volunteered" for it I did not push it on them ..so another time thank goodness ..But got back here and got out the $200 triplet 20 x 80 binos on a $2 tripod ..best mount they have seen so far..and although a pain managed some of the most impressive views of the "usual" objects... 20 x is great for Orion, LMC and SMC..they were unbelievable better than a one eye view thru 12 inch I recon ..maybe not but one could argue same .. but LMC and SMC looked as though they were only on the next hill top ..clear as ..Orion brilliant could see all the fan and hints of the outter band ..and for a colour blind person to coment on colour is strange but it looked to me very green..maybe cause I am on the river flat.. I also got an idea for mounting the binos on a rifle butt arrangement as I used the folded up triopod under my arm for a cruise and I think such could really work ..mmm particularly if you added a gyro scope and a countr weight ..mmm
But was it good to have a very clear very dark sky for a change ..I was too tired to set up the eq6 etc but may have a go tonight up home.

20x80 triplets are much, much better than I expected them to be. They really are amazing on big objects like the LMC, SMC, M45 and M31. The faintest object I have seen with them is probably NGC 7582 (mag 10.5?).

I use a banana lounge and rest my arms on the armrests and head on the back of the lounge. The most important thing is to rest your head. Slight movement helps to see things. It's good exercise for your biceps too. And so easy to set up!
