Anyone for Gum...

Gum 10 in HaRGB - A rarely imaged emission nebula in Puppis.

I accidentally found this while star-hopping around Vela looking for a new target. I'm enjoying seeing the dust lanes and the hint of resemblance to "The Predator" in profile.

It's dim though, this is 7 hrs of 30min subs Ha 3nm from home, and 3 hrs of RGB 10min subs from the LMDSS dark site.

I took this with the longer 'scope - but I may revisit this next season with the widefield one for better framing. There's a bit of O3 present and maybe some N2 & S2 so there's a possible new NB target here.

There was some quite poor seeing due to several large fire burnoffs in Victoria, so it's probably not quite as sharp as it could be, and it probably needs another 7 hrs of Ha, but enough excuses - HERE it is anyway!

Cheers
Andy

Cheers Colin, Kevin & Dunk for your positive feedback.

Whilst this one is at present not my usual style of image, it's an interesting but neglected piece of the sky worthy of it's due imo.

I'll likely revisit it earlier in the season next year and reframe & gather the O3 data as well.

Cheers

Andy

Interesting field that Andy and nice work. Because there is indeed so much Ha, many fields look pretty red when imaged in HaRGB, so the addition of the other emission lines will likely change this of course. Still quite a legitimate presentation

I'm not sure which object this is Andy.

Is this the larger nebula mid left of this image or the bottom left or something else?

Hi Greg,
It's neither of those ones.
Check this shot below so you can see where it is.
