Should prices be added in the Forsale Posts

Hi All
Just out of interest,do you think prices for items to be sold on the Forsale Threads should be included from the word go.

I for one dont really bother looking any further if the price is not there.

Cheers Leon

I think it should be up to the seller. But IMO they are doing themselves a disservice by not stating an asking price. It tends to turn people off.

I tend to assume that if a seller does not include a price, he/she is hoping to get close to new price, which they will not get from me. In any case, I cannot imagine a seller having a bargain price in mind and not stating it from the outset.

Expressions of interest are different from for-sale threads, I guess.

In those cases, I assume the seller isn't sure if they want to part with it, it just depends if someone is interested and what they're prepared to pay.

I agree with Steve, if someone really WANTS to sell it, they'll list the price they want. If a price isn't listed, and someone IS interested, they'll PM the seller. I guess that's why it's called an expression of interest

If a person really wants an item because its rare or collectable they might enquire further. This is in contrast to those who didnt know they wanted something until they saw it at a price too good to pass up.

I remember a certain gentleman last year who unknowing set his price too low and upon getting flooded with enquiries, he jacked his price up and upset everyone in the process

There are guideline for posting in the B, S & T forum here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=46 that suggest including the price, but it is up to the individual.

Personally if you are trying to sell something I can't see why you'd not include the price. I know that if I visit a website that doesn't have prices for items listed and requires you to "contact" them for prices, I go elsewhere. Sure I might miss out on a cheaper price (I haven't found that to be the case when I have contacted suppliers), but if I'm searching for something and I'm keen to buy I want to know the price now.

Otherwise I might change my mind and decide to hang onto my money

I generally do not bother with posts that do not include a price - just too much bother chasing it down really.

Cheers

IMO if the sale price is there with post you know the item is definitely for sale (or should be) and it will sell a lot quicker than without a price with the item.

G'Day All,
I agree that if it's for sale then the price should be stated, however I bought a item from a group member who only described the item, and asked to be contacted off forum,I made a offer and it was accepted. Expression of Interest in my case, was to see if there was a interest, not to get a higher price, but to save me going through all the hassle of taking pics, checking to see what's working and what will be included etc, to go through all that and then find that no one was interested, when you hit 64 yrs it's not so easy

Up to the seller but many are turned off if you dont list the price so if the seller chooses this path he must expect less of an audiance....not a wise move when it comes to selling gear in general.
