How hot was your Observatory today

Well the west wall of my observatory was 76 degrees the telescope and the in side was 46 degrees and the outside air temp was 46 degrees and it going to get worse tomorrow no viewing for a while .Aircon inside for me

It was 28 deg at 7.00 this morning but reached 46 today on the verandah its horrible my wife has really bad sinus problem and we did not put on the air con might have to tomorrow its going to be worse ,stay safe

It was 41 outside here but just 33 inside the observatory (which is a timber structure) raised off the ground on posts.. I installed some insulation under the polycarbonate roof panels before summer and it makes a big difference. I am only using the folder foil batts from Bunnings, a cheap solution but not messy like normal batts. I was surprised how well a corrugated aluminium surface worked.
I do bring my scope inside the house in weather like this, basically i shutdown imaging until this heat goes away.

Just come from the observatory its just on 9.00 here the outside temp is 36 inside the observatory was 38 just to bloody hot

My observatory is just the back deck at this stage but the scope sleeps in the garage. It eventually peaked at 35 degrees in there yesterday.

I keep the scope covered with two cheap sleeping bags and I was surprised that it seemed to provide a small amount of insulation as the metal on the scope was still coolish to the touch compared to other metal objects in the garage.

But I decided to follow glend's lead and brought it into the house this morning as temps are predicted to be 37 today and 42 tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the garage has four metal roller doors - two facing east and two facing west. During the morning and in the afternoon, the offending pair of doors becomes hot enough to burn my fingers and all this is radiated into the garage.

Just measured it at 3pm today, outside temp 48 degrees inside garage and telescope OTA were 51 degrees, i know some have used these scopes in -20 degrees covered in snow and ice but these scopes are not completely bomb proof, just thinking at what temp does it damage electronics, melt grease in the gears and warp or crack optics?

I spent a couple of hours searching online for a definitive answer to this, Wayne, and only really found opinions. I decided I was overthinking it. Even a 12" dob doesn't take up much floor space so it's sitting downstairs next to the lounge enjoying 26 degree comfort.

My wife was gracious enough to crack only one joke about "my preciousss.." getting privileged treatment.

At the end of the day, my car, several model aircraft, a PC, exercise bike etc all seem to survive in the garage so it was perhaps unnecessary.

Presently 46 °C at Werrington (near Penrith, Western Sydney)

Temperature is falling rapidly - down from 46.8°C half an hour ago. At this rate I will be back in the freezer suit in a day or two.

47.0 maximum in Richmond half an hour ago. Just under 45 Max on my verandah (in the shade). Too darn hot to go outside to check the Observatory. I hate summer!!

My zincalume scopeshed now has a double roof which improved matters significantly. Also has an "exhaust" fan operating backwards, positively pressurising the shed and forcing the hot radiated air from the ceiling out through the vent gaps at the top. The temp at floor level is much lower than the upper half, so all scopes are "parked" horizontal and tripods lowered. Still can't do much about the 40' plus ambient though..............(Cant afford to run an AC just for my poor babies).
