QLD to ACT by road - decisions....

Trying to decide the best route to take from SEQ (Sunshine Coast) to Canberra in a small removalist truck - Newell Hwy, New Engand Hwy or Pacific Hwy?

I am currently leaning toward basically the NEw England Highway with some route variation - Scone - Cassilis - Mudgee - Bathurst - Goulbourn - Canberra, but have no idea of the road conditions etc.

Any suggestions? I prefer to avoid Sydney all together (yes, I know the loop around to Blacktown and out, but...). Adding an hour or 2 is not an issue.

There will be 2 of us driving, so will be dividing the trip up.

Coast or inland Lewis, down the centre is too hilly. For me it would be:

Brissie, Warwick, Goondi, Moree, Narrabri, Coona, Gilgandra, Dubbo, Wellington, Molong, Canowindra, Cowra, Boorowa, Yass, Canberra

I agree with Matt. Lots to see and do on the way to make it a pleasurable journey.

If you don't plan to stop then stick to the Coast...

+1 to Matt's path - I used to do a lot of Canberra - Brisbane driving and that route worked very well.

I did the drive recently over Christmas. Against all advice I went along the pacific motorway. The roadworks are horrendous at the moment, and a few of my colleagues spent 2-3 hours of their trip stuck at roadworks. They ceased the roadworks temporarily over Christmas, hence I made the decision to travel the coastal route, but there were still considerable speed reductions in place through the roadwork zones.

Your original plan is best, but roos between Scone and Merriwa/Mudgee are a bit thick depending time of day.

Maybe if the driving is to be done in the daytime, in a sedan or similar, but Lewis is going to be driving an underpowered fully loaded pantec truck with his prized possessions in a virtually non-stop drive.....

Give me the Newell Highway any day

If this helps at all ...........Dubbo is good place to stop after that there isn't much and I wouldn't stop over night in Wellington, Cowra you can get a good feed at the Japanese Gardens (only other cheap/quick choice is MacD's which does have a park and a visitor center next door) , good pie shop in Boorowa (on the right after roundabout), Yass you'd have to go into the main street or its Mcd's at the petrol station but by then your nearly there, watch out for lunatcis on the Barton into Canberra.
