Woodpecker 2006

Here's a couple of photos of my mate's truck at Sunday's Woodpecker trial. The black all wheel steer Nissan is his team mate's. They did well, I think they won the team and club events.

It's been a long time since I've taken any sports type shorts, and I found the digi C5060WZ very slow between shots. Not as quick as I can be on my old manual OM-1 anyway! I was also taking photo just on program mode so auto focus and all that was delaying the image capture time. I didn't want to use focus lock or manual mode as I was like a one handed paper hanger trying to take photos of two trucks at a time going through the one section at the same time. Especially when Chad only took 2 minutes 18 seconds or some such silly amount of time to finish the first section! Talk about putting the pressure on a photographer!

I took about 130 something photos in the day. Pretty pleased with most, but lots of shots went begging 'cause the camera wasn't ready yet!

Certainly a different day out for us.

Al.

Excellent images, Al! Looks like a fun day!

When I took pictures of the monster trucks it was very difficult due to the low light in the afternoon/night. Definitely a challenge for fast moving objects.

Hi Al

I didn't know if there were any other 4WD nuts on here so I shut up. Glad to see it's not the case!

Were the SJC (Syd Jeep Club) guys there this year? They did well last year when i was with the club. I'm into Land Rovers now - no more Jeeps. I currently have a '00 Land Rover Defender Td5, a '97 Mitsubishi Delica 2.8TD, '97 Nissan Patrol TD42T and a '95 Nissan Patrol RB30. I used to compete in the Nissan Trials a few years ago but just tour now. It'd shake up the scope otherwise, which is always in the back....

Yeah I think the Sydney Jeep Club were there. I didn't hang around for the presentation so I can't say how they went - sorry.

We cruised down on the bike to watch and take photos, so by 6:30 - 7:00pm when the action stopped we were pretty keen to get underway on the way home across the mountains through the mist and drizzle... got home about 9:30ish.

I'm more into 4WD for touring and getting into places where I can walk to some scenic remote spots .

Al.

Yep I agree that "Dennis" would not be happy after a ride on that vehicle.

Yes, collimation would be totally stuffed.

Regardless - excellent pics and thank you for sharing.

Cheers Petra
