Hi Frogtwat! It was good to meet you at the "meeting" tonight to discuss the formation of a Central Coast Astronomical Society.
We should be able to organise at least 10 (??!!) IceinSpacers to come along. What about it everyone?!!!!
The next few New Moons fall on 9 April, 8 May and 7 June. The nearest Sat nights to that are 9 April, 7 May and 4 June. Maybe we could aim to get together around about those dates? Maybe the 9 April date is too soon for anything too complicated, but I can't see why those of us who want to do something informally can't just head for the hills that night??!!
Whatdoyoureckon?

Hey guys, good to catch up again last night with Rod, and good to meet you Anthony.
I'm going to try and go to my clubs (NSAS) bbq/bino night on the 8th april (friday). I'm not sure how much chance i've got to convince the wife that I need to go out on saturday the 9th as well. But i'll see what I can do.
But don't let that stop you, John B might be able to make it too.. though I think Andrew (hector) is going out with Gary and Mai to meet the visiting US contingent (Don Wyman + others).
I'm definitely keen to set up a bigger star party on May 6th or 7th though, we can have a bbq in the evening and observing after that. We can either go to Kulnura, Mangrove Mountain or Bucketty. Kulnura might be good cause you'd already have bbq facilities and stuff up there, right Anthony?
We might be able to drag some IceInSpace sydner-siders and novacastrians to the meet as well!
I might try and come up one night before then though Anthony and check out your observing field etc. see where we could set everyone up. PM me your mobile number and i'll give you a call when the full moon goes away.

Rod/Anthony
I spoke on the phone today with Andrew Murrell (Hector) and Gary Kopff (and partner Mai) from Argo Navis (yet to join IIS but will) and they are both keen to get a regular observing group happening. For starters we can try the Paintball Place at Kulnura as its reasonably handy. If thats not suitable there are a couple of other good observing locations within an hour or so of Kariong. One is Mogo Creek and the other is in the Yengco National Park called Finchley Trig. Gary, Mai, Andrew and myself are keen to get a small regular observing group together of maybe 10 to 12 people. I have a friend called Daniel Beringer who owns Frontier Optics who is also keen to join us.

Gary, Mai and Andrew are unable to make the 9 April date but are keen to start on 7 May.
I can come on 7 April and I think Daniel is also available so I will be in touch re this, prior to then

I think you mean the 9th april.
As I said I'm not sure if I can make the 9th april night, I think Rod and his family are coming for lunch at my house on that day, and either him or him and I will go observing after that.
The 7th May is a definite, we'll organise a bbq beforehand, a few beers and a get to know each other session

Reminds me of a scene in Monty Pythons 'Life of Brian'. "Let's have a meeting about having meetings".
Good Luck Anthony. It will be July before they work out when to get together in April.

Hi Mike, John B and Co.,
As mentioned by John, Mai and I will be joining a group of 20 visiting US amateurs currenty staying up at Coonabarabran this weekend. Amongst the American contingent is Mr. Obsession Telescopes himself, Mr. David Kriege. As Obsession Telescopes are Argo Navis resellers in the United States, we have a very close working relationship with Dave.
However, we look forward to observing with you on May 7th which we have penciled in on the calendar.
Wildcard have been observing in the Central Mangrove/ Kulnura/Bucketty area for several years now and in fact it is where a great deal of the field testing of Argo Navis gets done as part of our on-going development.
The place that John mentioned to me on the phone is a good locale and it sounds as if the owner has been quite generous with his hospitality in the use of the grounds.
Looking foward to it.
Anyway, for those going this weekend, have a great time.
Best Regards
Gary Kopff
