Orions Sword

Only managed to get two images before cloud came. I was trying to go as deep as possible to pick up the gas and dust. There is a bit of noise which usually disappears when stacking many images as a median.

Details
Canon 5DH, Canon 300mm F2.8L at F2.8, 2x15min at an ISO of 200, ICNR ON, Corrected for flats in IP, stacked with Registar, digitally developed in IP and levels and curves in PS.

Nice and deep Bert..good work there.... I done a bunch of 135mm shots of the same field the other week and I find its not a easy target to show all that faint stuff.....
Cheers Gary

We are actually seeing the giant Orion Molecular Cloud, of which M42 is only a small part. Bert's shot shows us much of the rest of this cloud.

Here is one from last night. IT consists of nine ten minute exposures at an ISO of 200 taken with a HUtech Nebula Filter. These were converted from RAW to TIFF and corrected for flats with ImagesPlus. Three lots of three exposures SUMMED with Registar, then those three median averaged. It is equivalent to 3x30min exposures. Levels and curves in PS.
Obviously taken with Canon 5DH and Canon 300mm F2.8L at F2.8.
I don't know whether HDR or masking would improve it. My aim was to get the faint stuff to show clearly.

Bert,

Both great shots. I love the definition of the clouds in the second shot.

Regards,
Humayun
