Talking NGC6744 Redux

Did a heap of reworking and trial/error to republish this image, I thought it worth giving it the time and effort it deserved.

So I did a far more cautious stretching process, using the old Masked Stretch and then a few tweaks. Original hyper-sat'd and LSD-influenced colour version here

I've found the ASI cam to top-out very quickly due to its lower dynamic range (12 bit), so processing seems much harder than the Sony A7s that must have big fat wells. So this time, after stretching, I then had to pull back even more using the Histogram Transformation tool, adjusting the stars until they had a mid level light value. This worked a treat compared to the original, far more star colour variety.

Will definitely revisit with much longer subs another time, combining shorter subs for the stars with the longer for the gal.

Thanks for looking.

Nice improvement Simon

Colours are definitely more balanced and stars look better too. Keep up good work

Its a great galaxy field Simon, with little buggers all through the field....very attractive in that sense.

Colour balance needs to be looked at but other wise very good work on one of the tougher targets.

Hi Simon,

I'd tidy up the blue star halos and, as Louie suggested, the colour balance could do with a tweak, but nice work overall!

Cheers,
Rick.
