Orion Nebula

Hi Folks

60 x 5 minute subs ( im now thinkning this is way to much the stars are blown out)
Darks applied no flats
Guided orion Awesome autoguider
Neq6pro
Skywatcher ED80
Astro Modded EOS 650D
Basic Photoshop (well who isnt still learning)
taken from light polluted cannington in Western Australia.

Im happy with the result. Ive got to invest time into learing Layer Masking but as most of my workdays are 12-15 hrs long lately ill be happy with a blown out core. The rest im pretty happy with.. considering im my own worst critic

Wow Ben, 5 hours on the Orion Nebula! Sky is a bit purple, otherwise nice image.

Do you still have the IR cut filter in place? If not, putting one of those inline can help reduce star bloat in refractors. But your stars don't look that big anyway.

Good effort Ben, but I notice that all your outer stars are elongated radially,
except for the lower left ones, which suggests to me a bit of camera
tilt.[ camera not perpendicular to the light path].

Thanks,

Raymo - yes you are right the focuser on the ed80 has started to suffer a bit. either needs serious looking at or upgrading. the weight of the camera actually makes it move 1-2mm even when tightened fully. The rest is because i dont use most a flattener at this stage either.

Kevin: i left the Ir filter in place, just removing the LP2 filter only. most of the stars look fine but the bottom right hand ones definitely bloated for some reason. i was almost going to crop them out. i figure as conitinue to learn more processing techniques i maybe able to tame those couple. Possibly cheat and touch them up with the spot healing or something similar. Im sure theres other ways also. Also as for looking a little purple .. i dont know i kind of like it looking a little on the bluer side of things. when i evened out the blue it looked a lil off to me.. could be my eyes or monitor. i guess as i get better at these things everything has to change too

with working long hours ive been limited in imaging runs.. so i was glad to see after all set and done.. the mod i did works and everything focuses corectly as it should.
