focusing eyepiece holder?

Hey

ponder this:
* You have 2 identical refractor telescopes with identical eyepieces in front of you, one for each eye.

* You have 2 eyes with a diopter difference of say 2.5.

You focus with each scope for its eye and then you compare the images.
Would they be same in size and closeness and FoV?

I have no scope here to answer this question for myself.
But I think it possible that the images would not be the exact same.

My goal would be to have too congruent images from both eyes in my brain.
Like with binoculars and their diopter thingy on 1 side.

So, are they the same, the images from both scopes?
Or do I need a focuser that can microfocus the eyepiece itself, something like this?
Or would this also alter the resulting image?

You've just described once of the differences between my left and right eyes - a significant diopter difference.

With two identical telescopes and two identical eyepieces I can confirm - from personal experience - you will perceive the image from each eye to be different.

This is because:

a) one eye has a different focal length to the other, hence the diopter difference;
b) to achieve focus one eyepiece or the other will be moved in or out relative to the other to compensate for the diopter difference in your eyes, and
c) the resulting overall combination has a different angular magnification one eye compared to the other.

Whether you're brain can fuse the images is another matter - you might be able to; I never could despite three operations under the age of 3.

thanks for the bad news

I would need only 1 contact lens because the other eye is still good enough and my brain is trained on it for far seeing, anyway.
Given the relentless cloud cover up here in Rostock, with the Iceland cloud system dancing a neverending pas-de-trois with the French and Russian, a packet of daily lenses should last a year or two...

Do they make contact lenses with built-in UHC filter?
They should, shouldn't they!
