EQ6-R Polar Alignment Scope Brightness

Would anyone know if there's a way to adjust the brightness of the polar alignment scope on the EQ6-r? When it's on you just can't see any starts through it!

If it is set up in the same way as my Orion AZ-EQ mount (Which uses a similar controller to the Skywatchers) there is a setting in the menus for polar scope brightness. I find even on the minimum it is intrusive.

So that's through the SyncScan hand controller? Once I set it with that do you know if it remembers the setting?
