I've had it for a while now as part of Vista. It's been great actually - very stable and also very friendly to use.

Try opening several pages - each in their own tab and press the QuickTabs button (right next to the add-favourite button) or press Ctrl-Q. Very nice.

I downloaded it the other day on our home machine...seems okay once you get used to the changes...so far we have not had any trouble with it.

I'm glad it finally has tabs like FireFox, but I think it's dumb of MS to make tabs a IE7 thing. Why aren't they a OS thing? That is, why when you open up one program with multiple files don't they appear as tabs along the bottom, rather than multiple task bar icons? Examples are MS Word, MS Access, MS IE 6.... where multiple documents in the same application take up task bar space.

They did a half baked solution in Win XP with the grouping thing on the taskbar, but that's nowhere near as functional as tabs - it's 2 clicks and shorter descriptions.

I'm sure once someone else builds an add-on for the OS to do that, MS will copy it (like they copied FireFox and everything else in the past... ) .. here they had an opportunity to take it one step better than FireFox.

Got it last night, seems ok. Dont use Firefox myself, but Netscape has had
tabs for quite sometime.

That's up to the application designer, not the OS. What you're describing very similar to the way most programs, incuding Word etc, operated in the Win3.1 days. It was called MDI from memory. I don't like it for programs like Word that update/save data. It's fine for browsers and the way Excel uses tabs, where they relate to worksheets within a single speadsheet.

..... it will break a lot of programs. The UI belongs to the app, not the OS. It's the program that has all the triggers for UI widgets. Don't forget that there are may programs out there that, for one reason or another, are strictly single-threaded, meaning one UI = one .exe, they wouldn't handle it at all.

Have been using it for a few weeks (test/beta?) seems stable enough. I probably should use Firefox more, but just use to IE. So far so good, tab browsing helps reduce the clutter.

I've now finished downloading IE7 along with a bunch of security updates that needed loading as well.
First impressions is that it looks a whole lot simpler to use and so far is quite stable, it also seems a lot more user friendly.

Seems quite good.

I like the quick tabs feature but I reckon the placement of the refresh button at upper right is pretty annoying.

Still getting used to it, but so far so good.

I also have Firefox which I really like for its speed.

I love the multiple homepages function - just open a browser and it opens all of your favourite sites in one go.

And the favourites menu is just sooooooooo much nicer to use.

The biggest new feature is the printing - its simpley superb - exactly how it ought to be done at last (though not quite perfect yet)!

I saw it running on a mates new Core Duo system, but was too busy salivating over his new PC with its E6600 cpu and 2gb ram.
Omaroo, are you using Vista, Ive read nothing but horror stories as to its buggyness and its vicious resource hunger, is it that bad?

Back to IE7, is it any faster than IE6?

Hi Scott, on my computer IE7 is definitely faster.
My system is a P4 3.6 GHz & 1.5Gb Ram, also with dialup 56K connection and there are visible improvements in speed and movements from one site to another.

Vista is superb, as is Office 2007 - More Mac than Mac if you know what I mean!

But bug free it is not - but then it hasn't been released yet has it?! and resource hungry it certainly is - a serious machine is needed to take full advantage of the new features.

Microsoft have written everything from the ground up with this one so it should be interesting to see how good it is in the long run. As a BA, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing if .Net 3 will live up to it's (my) expectations...

People just love writing emotive junk about anything and everything to get their 15 minutes of fame. IMHO this has happened to every significant realease of anything from Linux to XP to MacOSX to Windows Vista.

Vista (RC1 Build 5600) has been nothing but a pleasure to use in my experience. I run a modest machine (at home) with a 2.0Ghz AMD Athlon64, 1Gb RAM and an 80Gb SATA HDD. Nothing special at all. The machine is smooth as silk the whole time.

And this is coming from a Mac guy........
