Hepworth Freezer suits and Batesian mimicry

Its been friggin freezing in Tassie this winter and I've taken to wearing my Hi-Viz Hepworth Freezer suit jacket as my casual jacket. I began to notice that during the power outages and flooding that have plagued the state, that an inordinate number of people started asking me when the power would be back on in such an such an area... and if such and such road was open yet... Most curious...

Then, I noticed an increasing number of people, (mainly tradies I reckon), also wearing Hi-Viz, have begun to acknowledge me on the street with a a "collegial nod".... like I am one of THEM!

Blokes at road works would give a brief wave as I drove past, particularly when driving my ute... Hmmm!

... and coppers now often nod at me as I drive past them when they are wielding the hand held revenue collector... A pattern is emerging!

Little do they know....

HUH! I'm a politically incorrect, white collar professional... FOOLED EM!!!

HEPWORTH POWER!

I noticed something similar when I used to spray for weeds on the verge and kerb at the front of my house. I'd wear overalls and use a large pump up weed sprayer. Whenever a tradie drove by and saw me, I'd get a nod.

I thought this was pretty normal I'm usually in hi vis and driving a ute around though (work). Next year I do need to get more than just the Hepworth pants (early shout out to you Geoff).
