How often do your Wanted ads work?

No motive behind this question other than boredom and the question popped into my mind. Absolutely nothing to do with my own three unrequited ads!

I was just curious how often people place Wanted ads but never manage to find the item they're after. Looking back at my own history in the classifieds reveals that I have quite a few "Not required" items. It seems that several of these are multiple attempts at different times to find something then I give up when it's unsuccessful (case in point being my current quest for a ZenithStar 80 FD, which has been going on for years!).

What do others do when you can't find what you're after? Buy new? Try something else? Give up and try again later?

....... be patient and wait for the item to appear in the classifieds, buy something else or buy new if there's a sale.

If you're after a less common item you could keep an eye on Astromart.

I've never had much luck with wanted ads.

I found my last Tak because of a wanted ad although indirectly.
I tried for unsuccessfully for several eyepieces and ended up buying new.

When I list things for sale I try to scan the wanteds first....

I'm not allowed to buy any more Astro stuff.... Though a big box arrived today from the US......

I sell a lot of my gear in response to the 'wanted' ads, so they do work for some people.

I haven't had much luck with the 'wanted' ads that I place though.

So far I think I have only put up one Wanted Ad but that hasn't been successful. I think that is the problem with wanting good equipment, people don't want to sell it most of the time

Out of the 5 wanted ads that I've posted, 3 have been fulfilled. The remaining 2 were for the same item at different times, but ended up buying something else brand new when there was a sale on. Kinda glad I did, the Pentax XW's have been excellent.

Good point. There are definitely times when a particular notion has worn off after a while and I've been glad I didn't spend any money on it, or something better came along.

I find that once I put the feelers out, and keep an eye on CN, astromart, Astro buy sell au, Canada and UK something always turns up. In fact I find they appear in threes.

I have only tried once for some tube rings and a true gentleman responded and sent me the rings free of charge.
