CCD Calculator / FOV Question

Hi all,
After some more reading I'm back with another question.

I was reading a recent post where someone was directed to get a program 'CCD Calculator" as way of understanding some issues.

I've plugged in my proposed system:

1) Either 200/1000 or 250/1200
2) Canon 60D.

I notice objects like M31 will not fit within FOV of camera. How do I get around this to fit the entire M31 in the frame?

Thanks
Mick

There's no magic answer. You have three choices if you want a bigger FOV:
  • Reduce the focal length (use a shorter FL scope or a focal reducer)
  • Use a bigger sensor
  • Take multiple panes and stitch them together in a mosaic
Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick. As stated, I'm sponging information on a daily basis.

I'm starting to realise that images like this one must have taken the photographer (Paul) a huge amount of effort over many years of learning, with lots of frustration.

BTW, I owe Paul for the picture. I showed my wife and she was blown away by its beauty and now seems to have a better appreciation of why I'm spending lots of money.
