EQ6 240v DC power adapter required...

Hi folks, need your advice.
I somehow got my 240v/12vdc 2A power adapter cable tangled during a late night meridian flip. Now it's not working so I've probably sheared a cable.
I have another 240v/12v DC 10A adapter that runs my Kendrick dew strap.
Can I just get a splitter and run the mount off this as well or do I need a replacement 2A unit?
Cheers
Andy

Andy,

The amperage of your power supply only refers to what the unit is capable of putting out, so you could have 5 pieces of equipment that add up to 9 amps and the unit will supply all of them. It does not mean that it puts out 10 amps all the time.

Check out how many amps your heaters use on full blast and then if you have free amps that add up to 2 amps or more, you are good to go.

The unit I use is 10 amps regulated and I run nearly everything off the one unit.

Cheers.

That should be fine Andy, just make sure you have the polarity correct.

Thanks heaps Bill & Bart,
I have this heater controller, it's 5A per channel and I only use one heater strap and one channel.

Does Jaycar sell some kind of splitter to run both the controller & the mount?
Cheers
Andy

I'm not sure of what you are after here.

What connection do you have for the mount?

If both are like cigarette power thingys you can buy a double outlet, Jaycar should have them.

Is this what you are thinking?

Just my personal opinion, i always run my mount off the observatory house battery, which is a 60AH battery connected to the solar charging system. This provides clean DC to the mount only and will not drop out if there is an electricity supply glich, or the power spikes, etc. When at the dark site i take that battery. I would not mix heater and mount power. Happy to run heaters off AC converters but not the mount.

Just to confuse you further Andy,
I salvaged an a/c power supply from a car fridge which has a ciggy outlet for the fridge to plug in. I then wired up a ciggy adapter to power the mount. I have batteries to run the dew heater.
You dew controller has a 7A fuse, but that should be fine as I can't see you running above 7A if you have one heater and one for the mount.

If you can get a connector to split them (And the polarity is the same between both) it should run both. I think my big honker SCT corrector heater draws about 3A flat out.

I might be able to fix the damaged cable for you though, depends on where it is broken.
