Sunshine Coast Queensland Star Party Friday September 2nd 2016
I have declared this as a way of reinvigorating Sunshine Coast Astronomy activity, and introducing Brisbane Astronomers to Howell's Knob, a site just west of Maleny.
This will also be attended by representatives of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to consider declaring this a Dark Sky Park and consider making some improvements to the site to assist astronomers and the public enjoy the night sky.
So i am keen to get a good attendance! The more that come along the stronger our argument to the council.
There are already quite a number who attended astrofest 2016 who have expressed their intention to come and there will be some big scopes! My 14" will be there as well as a 20"!
Howell's Knob is on google maps and 7 minutes drive west of Maleny. At over 500 metres altitude it is the highest point on the Southern Sunshine Coast and unobstructed horizons apart from very low in the north west. There is minor sky glow due south to about 20 degrees.
Coming from Brisbane the fastest route is up the Bruce highway all the way to the new interchange at Roy's Rd (exit 179) rather than plodding all the way up Steve Irwin Way.
Please let me know if you are coming; how many and with what equipment. I will compile numbers and speak further when i return from overseas in late August.
Regards
Ken
