Sir John Monash's Telescope ....pics wanted

I am hoping some enterprising IIS member living close to the Monash University might be able to locate the Sir John Monash Refractor which I believe is on display in a glass case there, and take some photographs of it for me.

Pictures of the finderscope and the clamp at the base of the altitude rod especially would be nice to have, as I want to make a matching finder for my Berry&Mackay branded Watson & Sons refractor.

Should someone succeed in doing this, I would be one happy "Moonpie"

Happy to reimburse for local train fares (No Col, I cannot afford to pay for airfares from Queensland for you to do this !!!) and I will also be happy to host the photographer for a dark sky night in Canberra with the 18" "Guinevere Reflector" Imagine viewing from the historic Mt Stromlo at up to 792x .....

Hello Philip,
I don't know, it was gifted to Monash Uni by Sir John's family and has only been used a couple of times since the 1970s once in 2006 and again in 2012. It should be in the Science Faculty, likely in an admin area.
It will be in a large timber/glass cabinet.
Cheers,
Matt

the ASV has a 80mm f15 refractor which belonged to monash & was bought by another party who sold it on to the ASV..its a zeiss instrument, puts up a fine image, on a tall wooden pier mount, was used for both of the recent transits of venus.
i checked up a couple of years ago -the old zeiss refractors go fo some big $ in europe

Hi All

I have been told that it should be in the Hargrave Library, hopefully near the entrance.

Thank you Philip, the photos solved the riddle, I am sure that my scope is one made by Watson & Sons and sold under the name of Berry&Mackay.

Badge engineering in the 1800s.........

Thanks for going to all the effort, I have a nice bottle of Penfolds here with your name on it.........

Monash telescope

Matt,
Do you still require photos, I shall be at Monash Uni for my son's graduation and will have at least two hours hanging around so no probs. I only have a bog standard eos 700d but should be able to get some reasonable results if you let me know what you are particularly interested in.

Philip took some for me but a couple of the finder scope would be great.

Thanks David (Mamba) for a series of beautiful photos, sorry I didn't get back to you, still crook after battling a lung infection for 6 weeks.

I am going to source an achromatic 30mm F10 ish doublet for the finder and some brass tubing......

Pics later this year...... if I get rid of this bug.
