Couple of Collimation questions...

Edit: Never mind, answered my own question... started again and got the Cheshire crosshairs lined up, almost.

Hey guys,

Fingers crossed I've just successfully collimated my 'scope for the first time... only took me 2hrs (includes reading time)!

It looked to be out by a fair bit, everything was wonky when looking into the naked focuser. Now its all centred and I can see my eye so hopefully I'll notice the difference tonight... if the sky is clear.

Couple of quick questions re. the process:
  1. When looking through the cheshire the out-of-focus crosshairs were not centred. However, the in-focus reflected crosshairs and 2 centre points were aligned. Is that correct? I couldn't get the out-of-focus crosshairs to centre. They did not overlay the in-focus reflected crosshairs. Re-checking the secondary seemed fine, all circular and even with 3 mirror clips showing.
  2. Is it common for one of the primary mirror adjusters to end up much slacker than the others? To find alignment 2 screws are fairly tight and one quite loose.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Iain

Hmmm, on reflection the out-of-focus crosshairs surely should also line up if everything's correctly aligned ...would this indicate a miss alignment of the secondary and focuser?
