May Photo Challenge - Comments & Rejects

Post any comments on the May Photo Challenge submissions to this thread.

If you have any "notable rejects", you can post them here too.

This month's Topic is "Beauty in Nature"
That is a fairly broad topic, and of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I predict some stunning images.

Enjoy

Beautiful Cicada shot, Uni!
[good decision to go with the cute bug instead of the cat]
How do you keep such good resolution when reducing the file size to under 200kb ?

Here's a set of photos from the past year that I quite liked.

Hi Trevor,

They are really good pictures, my favorite is the yellow beetle.
Is that a dedicated macro lens you are using, or a zoom?
Were the little guys running all over the place making it tricky to frame and focus in time?

Cheers, Tim.

Hi Tim.
All except the Lady Bug (Beetle) were taken either with a 70mm Sigma macro, or the kit 18~55 Canon lens with a 25mm auto extension tube. The Lady Bug and the rock formation were taken on my Canon S110 compact camera (which died yesterday when I was out photographing fungi).
The spider was the one that kept running away to get under the log. The others all stood still and smiled :-)
