Storm over SA

Please tell me someone has their gear out and is capturing images of the lightening storm that's taken over the night sky. There's at least one flash per second.

It does make me ask, why is there no (or minimal) thunder with so much activity? We just had it pass over our heads and you could hear the air splitting like a whip crack, but now there's still oodles of lightening, with no sound. Is it because it's not touching the ground?

One of the most epic electrical storms I've seen. Never seen lightning illuminate the entire cumulonimbus until now. Could also see flashes from over 250km away from cells well into NSW. At one stage the entire western, southern and eastern horizon were strobing constantly while overhead it was a lovely clear night! Then the fun really began. Some of the most intense lightning activity imaginable. This was some serious heavy duty ****, I guess this is what it feels like living in Darwin Came as a complete surprise, being the start of winter and all! But yeah there has been a lot of warmth this month so something was bound to give.

The reason you did not hear thunder is because it was too far away. I think the limit for thunder is about 40km, but that's based on what I've read.

That would make sense. It was so fast! What I don't understand is that the BOM cancelled the severe thunderstorm warning for our area, probably half an hour before it hit. I bet they felt a bit silly.

Very strong winds in Warragul last night associated with thunder storms. We had serious damage to large trees in our back yard.
