One of the most epic electrical storms I've seen. Never seen lightning illuminate the entire cumulonimbus until now. Could also see flashes from over 250km away from cells well into NSW. At one stage the entire western, southern and eastern horizon were strobing constantly while overhead it was a lovely clear night! Then the fun really began. Some of the most intense lightning activity imaginable. This was some serious heavy duty ****, I guess this is what it feels like living in Darwin

Came as a complete surprise, being the start of winter and all! But yeah there has been a lot of warmth this month so something was bound to give.
The reason you did not hear thunder is because it was too far away. I think the limit for thunder is about 40km, but that's based on what I've read.
