Smoke haze in Melbourne coming from the north

Any idea why we have a smoke haze starting to develop over Melbourne?
Since when do we do burn offs on anzac day?
So much for a viewing night tonight.

I guess perfect autumn weather is also perfect burning off weather. We need some southerlies to blow the smoke away. I've got a scope out cooling anyway, just a little smoky in Warragul.

Yep I remember all the good autumn nights being ruined by burnoff smoke. Southerly winds are no good as they just bring cloud off the ocean. Frustration overload.

looks like I'm going to have to wait another couple of weeks. last time the scope out was early feb. I have found even when we have had clear weather these past 6 months, the wind has been too much for imaging (well atleast for my 12" beast anyway).

it is really annoying when you were zeroing on any niggles in the system to go back to square 1 again a few months later.

Maybe do some plain old observing? Look up some old favourites, catch some shooting stars and satellites, check out Jupiter........ mosquitoes have calmed down recently too.

Ended up doing some observing and trying to image Jupiter, even though it was clear there was some upper level distortion, not sure if it was smoke haze, but Mars was worse.
Went to bed after 11pm
