Revisiting what must be my favourite DSO, this time with the new wide field Stellarvue SV70T.
We probably all have an object that's become your bogie, no matter how many times you try, something goes wrong and you're never happy with the result!
I've now tried shooting something like 67 different targets over the past three years but fortunately this one has come out reasonably well each time
I love the way that the clouds of molecular gas swirl around forming these beastly shapes, like two dragons locked in eternal combat under the stormy skies of Ara.
The wide field gives some sense of scale as well, and it includes the mysterious X-File object NGC 6164, like a cosmic time capsule drifting in space.
It's a very cool region to image!
Oh man I have these high end scopes and I see images like this and wonder why I bother. Superb. Just superb. If you had've shown me that image a few years ago and told me you used a 70mm scope I wouldn't have believed you.

Greg.
Thanks Greg, obviously as I have no experience with a high end 'scope I can't compare. But imo it's what we all do, try to make the most of what we can with what we have until sometimg better eventually comes along!
I'm sure that your 'scope yields amazing results, but thankyou for the nice compliment, perhaps I can pass that on to Vic at SV as well

Cheers Colin, yeah it's an incredible sight. Something for everyone. I'm thinking 6164 will further improve with some O3 time - now for some clear skies ahead eh?

Love your work Andy! Nothing wrong with building on stuff done before, but 67 DSO in the last few years - man, you are a machine! Love your original effort with this one and looking forward to seeing some OIII and SiII data in your palettes. Any RGB for stars also?
looking good andy, no idea how you have gotten the imaging time at the moment!
Yeah Russ, the Victorian weather gods are not being very kind atm... But the skies will clear again soon

Love the way you see new stuff in DSO's Mike, very poetic!

Cheers Troy, yes going the full monty on this one as soon as the skies clear. Not sure you'll want to see all 67 images though, some of early ones were pretty rough attempts! Like many others though, I'm a bit obsessed with this hobby and I'm always learning new stuff from everyone here and the web.
