The freedom that I enjoy under the stars has come at a horrendous cost, in a world that seems not to know peace. Thank you to all those that have served and continue to serve, I honour your courage and sacrifice.
Well said Dennis, I just got back home from the Canberra Dawn Service. A beautiful dawn with cool but mostly clear sky. 40 years have passed since I attended my first one in Canberra.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

As an ex serviceman this is one day that evokes a certain amount of emotion. This year I was not able to attend the dawn service or even think about marching due to health issues. That did not stop me from getting up at dawn and thinking of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, think about the guys I served with and think about those who continue to serve in whatever capacity.
It's good to see the participation is still strong with both people attending watching both the dawn service and those who actually march. It's a mark of respect for all those who have been involved in the services in my opinion.
One thing I personally am very proud of is my own service to my country even though that was a long time ago now. Service life is not an easy life no matter what you are doing or where you are serving. So if you have in the past or even now offered yourself for service you ought to be proud of your commitment. It takes up a big chunk of your life and stays with you forever.
I know it is silly, but I always feel like an outsider looking in, on ANZAC
occassions, as my time on active service was with the RAF in an area
where the Australians were not involved.

Deepest respect for all those that serve and have served in our countries military.
Couple of pics attached 1/ my Mum wearing my Dads service medals {Maylasia/Borneo 62-66} at the Perth city Anzac march with a Legacy mentor. My Dad passed away early January, the support given by Legacy has been nothing short of exemplary 2/ Mum visited the Long Tan memorial a couple years ago

Stu that's so touching, thank you for sharing.
Legacy is one of the main charities I support each year.
