Antares at 300mm

Hi there all,

First warty LRGB image of Antares. Lots of things to fix up I know. Need lots more data.

10 minute LRGB subs through CLS filter. About 3 hours of each filter

OPINION: Do you think I need to push the subs to 15 minutes? Or will more data be sufficient?

Uploaded a second more aggressively stretched version just to see what details can be drawn out. This of course has blown out stars etc.

Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

Hi Scott,

I like the second image, it looks a big storm moving in on Antares.
I just think you need to add more data to it and then you don't have to stretch it so much.

Very nice work Scott

I like the first version more. I know that there are tricks to reduce halos around very bright stars, but have never tried doing that myself.

But I like the image as is, and of course more data is always good

Not unless you run out of disk space

Looks good, Scotty. I would think that 15 minutes is way more than you need on such a bright target.

I will stick to 10 minutes and just charge on with the data collection!
How would've us astrophotographers gone back in the early 90s when hard drive sizes were 50mb!

Thanks Ross. The first one is growing on me now.
In regards to equipment
Imaging camera is the atik11000
Guide camera is the atik 314l through the 400 mm f5 scope
Imaged through my 75 -300 canon lens at f8 300 mm.
Mounted on the azeq6.
Orion lrgb 2" filters plus the astronomik cls filter.
