Filming planets

Hi

I want to take my first attempts at getting high res planet and luna images.

My Nikon D7100 has movie mode and I can do Dx or 1.3x crop mode.
Looking at the settings I can do 1080p at 30/50/60 fps and 720p at 30/50/60 fps.
(1920 x 1080; 60i (59.94 fields/s)/ 50i (50 fields/s) * 1920 x 1080; 30 p (progressive), 25p, 24p 1280 x 720; 60p, 50p Actual frame rates for 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, and 24p are 59.94, 50, 29.97, 25, and 23.976 fps respectively; options support both high and normal image quality * Available only when 1.3x (18 x 12) is selected for Image area. Sensor output is about 60 or 50 fps.)

What is the best way to film planets e.g. Jupiter and moon. I will use my Meade 8" with a 2.5x barlow.
Any help will do. I will use registack 6.

Ben

Hi Ben

I am (very) far from being an expert, but, I suspect that the the highest frame rate, progressive scan will give you the best result after processing.

I think the high scan rate gives a better chance of getting individual clean images.

Good luck

Philip

I just done multiple filming sessions of jupiter in both 1080p 60I and 720 60P.

Give me a few days to process the images. I will compare both film modes
