This is the first image I have posted on Ice In Space. I have put it up to show what can be done without a tracking mount. Also it fits between the close up and wide field views already posted.
Taken, morning of 22 March from suburban Hobart with 50 mm Ziess Planar at F2.5 on a Canon 40D, ISO 1000, stack of 8 x 20 sec exposures, with darks, and bias. Processed with DeepSkyStacker, linear stretch, plus some fiddling with luminescence, saturation etc .... Plus extra saturation, brightness change in Paint, and to resize and convert to gif
looks good,
trying summing the images togther then adjusting the contrast and color balance. The background should lower in level and the stars and comet be a bit more colorful.... rgds, Alan
In the individual frames the comet is a only a little more greenish, and the background is bluish. I have tried a wide of settings with the contrast and saturation after stacking. I use a median when stacking, rather than a sum. The images after stacking with deep sky stacker always seem to lack colour. I have seen the thread here on Ice In Space and have tried the recommended setting still no luck. ....
Great shot, Stefan, especially considering that the comet has a maximum magnitude of 12 or 13, and is a tiny one comet compared to other similar visitors from the past. Nice lens, too! Currently it's in Capricorn and rising around 4:00am? Wish I had my new scope...
There is colour in your image. If you don't have photoshop download a program called GIMP (free). Then you can play with levels, curves and saturation etc.
I used photoshop on your image - there is some colour!
