The Great Nebula in Carina

Hi All,

This is my narrowband rendition of a great southern target, The Carina Nebula. With around 37 hours of data it is probably the longest I have spent on one target - though it may soon be surpassed by another one that I currently have in the works.

There were times during processing that I got a bit sidetracked by the sheer scale of this region and the chaos associated with some of the more localised areas. Definitely a fascinating target. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Image details:

FSQ106EDXIII, FLI PL16803.
SHO, 630:720:870 - 37 hours total, Captured January - March 2016.

High resolution available on flickr:

Astrobin (though no ICC profile):

Cheers,
Chris.

So that's what happens when you put a massive sensor on a short FL telescope... Fantastic! Nicely processed, very deep

Wow! Even the LoRes is a cracker of a shot. Lovely, lovely detail.
Really like the palette you've chosen for this too.
Beautifully done.

Thanks heaps for the positive feedback, I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how to tackle this one but it seems to have come together ok in the end :-)

Certainly starting to miss longer focal length stuff though....

That's spectacular, Chris. Well conceived and superbly executed.

There are lots of little patches around the edges which if they were far from the Milky Way would be named targets in their own right.

Had lots of fun seeing how the SII was distributed. You've captured it very nicely.

Best,
Mike

Very nice Chris - the large field of view is amazing.

I did a quick LRGB this month, but only imaged about 1/8 of what you did - twice the focal length and about a quarter of the chip size... Must upgrade my camera one day.
