Moonlite = amazing

I recently stuffed up my fairly new Moonlite focuser while trying to motorise it the DIY way. Basically I got impatient and didn't want to wait another 3 weeks to land an appropriately sized shaft coupler from China, so I tried to tap a fractionally too small shaft coupler onto the fine-focus shaft which led to a cascade of effects ultimately resulting in non-functioning fine-focus.

I sent this back to Moonlite to get a replacement shaft/control assembly. Ron kindly discounted this for me for no reason other than he's awesome.

Anyway, I'd hoped to get this back by Christmas when I'll have take some annual leave, and if the weather clears up, I might stay up late and get some imaging done. I sent this on the 1st of December and picked it up today on the 16th. I think that's a pretty damned good turn around time for a return like this, considering it's a repair and it had to go to the US and back.

The icing on the cake is what I found when I opened the package... Ron had included, free of charge, the full slip clutch assembly they use for their own focusers for me to use with my DIY one, with some polite instructions telling me not to try and attach my kit to the fine focus control as I had been.

This kind of service is way above and beyond imo, and I just felt the urge to share this with here in case anyone's thinking of doing business with Ron.

My dealings with Ron have been a real pleasure. I've bought Moonlight focusers for my custom newt and refractor builds and he has always been quick to reply and helpful with which flange/adaptor i'd need etc. Right now he is building a custom adaptor to fit his newt focuser to the MN190 correctly. Many people have tried to fit Moonlights to MN190s but mess up the secondary centering when trying to use the stock tube adaptor. I took some photos and measurements and made him a drawing and now he's putting it into the next production run. He's always ready to help.

Indeed! I forgot to mention that he also either replaced or cleaned up the drawtube free of charge, which I'd scuffed up a bit.

That's awesome. That's one of the things that put me off the MN190, I wasn't sure if I could put a Moonlite on it; great to hear Ron's sorting that out too.

I actually considered the Moonlite for my Tak FC-76 - still might yet. I see they have a specific adapter for my scope, as well as Tak flat finder base - superb. Price is nice.

I am still undecided... I probably will in the New Year though. I believe all up with dual speed, Tak finder base, imaging clutch etc it came in at $675 with postage. VERY nice! Probably have to be anodised blue or green (prob. blue...)

I had one bad experience with a donked with Moonlite once that put me off them for a while, but I am willing to try again. I love the Tak focuser too, but I have some automation ideas that don't suit the Tak focuser. I have no qualms drill and tapping a Moonlite
