Brilliant White Meteor

Last night I saw a brilliant white meteor with a very long trail moving quite slowly from the South East in direct line moving away from Canopus towards the North West. It lasted only a few seconds then disappeared.

What a sight !! I guess you just have to be lucky and looking in the right place at the right time

Not sure if it was an Orionid

It would not have been an Orionid. But great you saw a bright meteor.

Here is a map of the radiant. Where Orionids seem to come from.

This url is where the map came from. Nice web site. http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/lin...id_shower.html

Thanks for the links Dave.

I assumed it wasn't an Orionid but still curious to know what shower it could be from in that direction.

Yeah Pretty wierd Barb & David.

I have been getting whitish/orange Fireballs from the North for the last 2 nights!!!

Gonna be checking for them again tonight too. I don't know why they are around. They aren't Orionids.

These are slowish & large and go from North to South.
