Telescopes and Astronomy

Has anyone had recent dealings with the above, I am waiting on a response regarding a SkyShed POD.
Greg.

Yes I have and I spoke to them today to chase up an order for some Losmandy DUP plates that were supposed to have been posted two weeks ago. I was told that Matthew has been away and will be back on Wednesday. I'm not particularly happy with the lack of communications in this instance though in their defence I can only say that all of my past dealings with them have been trouble free. I am sincerely hoping that this is a once off.

I know Matthew very well, he only lives a couple of clicks from me. He is absolutely flat out most of the time, fear not he will get in contact, there are not enough hrs in the day for him at times.

I had 'an experience' which I will not reveal publicly...

As a reply to the comments I'm seeing on this forum.
I am here on my own working at my job, plus running two businesses and looking after two young kids. I apologise if Matt has been away with the other business for 14 days, but I am trying to do my best and Matt is also still trying to answer emails. We are just a two man run business with a lot of work on our hands, if we are slow to get back to you is because we are busy trying to help customers get the best deal at the right price.

I dealt with Trish recently and have to say she was great at helping me with my purchase. Item posted already and on its way to me with tracking details supplied.

Highly recommend them on my experiences. Great price point too for my purchase.

Thanks Trish and Matt!

Good for you Les!

You should be pleased that you didn't have to resort to approaching the Police & Consumer & Business Affairs in order to achieve a resolution for a preposterous situation.

I did.

Buck: Mine was no 'edict': I have not made public what I endured, only what I did.

Following my posting, I've received a number of PMs recounting similar grievances of inappropriate & astonishing customer treatment.

I would be happy to send you de-identified copies of some of the issues that have been (privately) sent to me.

It is a shame that we cannot be open & frank on this forum because of IIS's TOCs.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I like to form my opinions based on my own experiences with people. That way I am fully aware of the context and all details relevant to my experience(s).

So far so good in this case!

Many PMs are circulating, but these cannot be freely ventilated on this forum.

So as to avoid any legal repercussions or expense to IIS or Mike, could the Mods please close this thread.

I can't see why this thread should be closed.

The circulation of PM's seems to have been started by...your negative post and offer? Now you think it should be closed...

I was prompted to propose closing the thread after receiving the following (anonymous here) PM:

"The issue for Mike is that he has been threatened by legal action before by an aggrieved Vendor who didnt like what was being sent
Since its costs $1000's just to reply legally he didnt want this to reoccur
...

From a membership point of view it ought to be allowed, from an IIS legal and finacncial perspective - its just a recipe for disaster
Not to mention the angst and time loss it causes for Mike.

Whilst I think it should be allowed, I also accept that its not a viable option for IIS

I am pretty sure I have made my point on this in the past by PM - where i have said that to prevent any negative sentiment and only allow positive sentiment means that you are forcing an extremely biased response and that members are being unfairly influenced by the forum".

I agree.

How about every contributor deletes their posts to this thread, we don rose-tinted glasses, sing 'Kumbaya', pretend that all is well in the world & not face reality?!

The mods can delete threads they consider necessary. I'm almost sure I've seen that happen before. Might see it again

Oh the world is a funny place isn't it?

I try to find the humour in any situation. Helps my sanity.

If nothing else this thread has sparked debate on an eclectic range of topics and raised the profile of one of our smaller Astro-vendors.

I've dealt with Telescopes & Astronomy on 2 occasions with excellent, knowledgeable n friendly service. I bought one item.

Probably every vendor/store has unintentionally or seemingly caused grief to a customer or 2. Those customers don't return. But the stores provide good service on nearly all occasions, including fixing issues to the customer's satisfaction, and trade well with a good reputation.

I have dealt with Matthew on and off since about 2006. Visited his home business several times. Apart from a few times having to chase emails, I have had no issues dealing with him. As mentioned, he is very busy running his business from home.

Telescopes and Astronomy have now replied to my email.

To those who chose to hijack the thread and vent, I have read some of the responses and it makes me wonder if this would have run in the same direction if my OP )(which was nothing more than trying to establish T&A's existence) was in reference to one of the larger retailers, I think not, because they would have been all over it like a fat kid on a cake!
Greg.
