Ngc 1365

I have always imaged from light polluted suburban Adelaide. So this was an experiment at a darker sky site (Stockport, north of Adelaide). 3 hours (9 x 20mins) of data with a GSO RC8" and a QHY8. (A bit of cloud and some suspect guiding in a few of those exposures though!)

Some nice detail, Paul. Would be better if you could tone down the chrominance noise in the background. ACDNR will do a good job of this if used carefully.

NGC 1365 is certainly getting some attention at the moment. There is some nice detail and colour in the galaxy there Paul. Some more data will assist with toning down the background noise a bit.

It looks like the GSO RC 8" is performing well given the nice round stars across the field. I can't see any evidence of issues with guiding.

Thanks guys. Will try some more ACDNR. But may just need more data, as you suggest Rodney. (Version C on AstroBin has the noise on the galaxy addressed - was avoiding this in ACDNR before with a luminance mask. Not sure if better or worse :-)).

Re guiding, was getting a fair bit of jitter in both RA and dec with an occasional larger jump. I guess it adds up to a broader FWHM whilst keeping round stars if it's uniform?? RMS for guiding was about 1.3" I think cf more like 0.7-0.8" on a good night's run recently. No idea what was causing the big jumps (2-3" spikes every so often).

That has some nice sharp details in galaxy for a OSC camera Paul, Your F/Lngth would be a big help to this ! RC8 hey, they have a very good rep, yeah.

looking good - especially for an OSC.

another process that may help tame the chroma noise in the background is to form an unsmoothed range mask and use it to protect the main parts of the galaxy and the stars, while you wind back the colour saturation in the background.

Interesting. PixInsight picks out a few more (attachment). Always love these background galaxies. Some of them at stonking distances!

Thanks - had to look up what "grouse" meant! (Pom having spent my Aussie time in Adelaide only ). I'm quite happy with the RC8. Would like to upgrade to mono camera soon though.

ha-hey, I found out it is mainly used in Melbourne - right next door to you, Lol !
I haven't been to Adelaide but reckon Ive spread it right up the blo-ody Grouse East coast to Cairns mate Lol !!!
