150mp CMOS sensor

Focuser might need some modifications and one would need custom made filters, but this sensor surely would help in making some great panoramic astrophotos /mosaics...

A scope with a big enough image circle for the longer dimension would be expensive, Suavi

I was thinking it would work nicely with a rectangular telescope or with a one with a highly elliptical lens

Orient sensor vertically. Now, let gravity do it's trick and let the focuser tilt/sag... eventually, the sweep will cover the entire sensor

A GSO focuser ought to do the trick

I am encouraged by this GPixel company. It seems like a Chinese sensor company could be our future astrophotography camera supplier. The QHY42 is a GPixel sCMOS sensor with 1.5 electron read noise. Not cheap though at an expected US$5000 for the camera which is a lot for a QHY camera.
I don't think I would be an early adopter though. Lets see what the fixed pattern noise looks like (backside illuminated) so flats work.

There's been talk about sCMOS being the future of amateur astro cams but none have become available yet. They may be the first.

I also see a mono Sony Exmor CMOS sensor that is 4mp and is very large. That could be good.

A mono version of the full frame Sony Exmor 24 and 36mp sensors for astro could potentially be nice.

Interesting aspect ratio - might be useful for a sweeping style of imaging system. Otherwise not sure how it might be workable.

Greg, the QHY42 is planned with 3 different GSense400 chip options - two of which are front illuminated.
Lets hope something materialises.

You can buy sCMOS cameras off the shelf now from companies like Andor which have low read noise cameras.
