I agree, saw both split enz and crowded house live. Both great bands and more to the point original and not carbon copies of bands from the past. Even sadder to think that someone who has given others so much pleasure needed to end his own life.
I rarely get upset at the passing of celebrities, but losing Paul certainly did shake me up. He and the Finn brothers were true musicians and Paul had a wonderful personality. He never seemed 'disengaged' from the general public like so many of his peers.
Mental illness is such an insidious thing and, echoing what Phil said, it's so sad to think that someone like Paul Hester, with so many friends and admirers, not forgetting his partner and children, still couldn't find their life worth living.
