damn QHY

A pox on the house of QHY for not allowing software to run 2 of their cameras via their SDK ... i can't operate my camera and my guiding with the skyx for this reason.

Have you got all the ASCOM drivers installed? I had trouble getting my QHY's to connect to TSX at first. I found there was quite a lot of little things to install to get it to work. I ended up using MaximDL in the end only because Im familiar with it.

PS. My QHY10 broke down just as I got the scope up and running!

If you download the ASCOM drivers you should be able to. At least I think so, I know that there is a warning message that pops up within TSX when using their in house driver.

I am sure, based on my twice bitten experience with QHY, that their software and drivers are written by an illiterate house fly.

I hope it goes OK for you Aidan. I never could get anything to talk to my QHY 5.

hey ! that is an insult to illiterate house fly's all over the world !!

i have had my fair share of problems with them, but i have seemed to Macgyver my way through it and it is working now.

eventually i will get a selfguiding camera or filterwheel maybe the STX 16803 but need to let the bank balance settle down a bit.

I never had anything but joy with my Qhy8+Qhy5 combo. I ran maxim dl with ASCOM drivers for the 5 and the ccdlabs driver on the 8. It was perfect.

I've also never had an issue with QHY's drivers, and I've used them on all versions of Windows up to the the current Windows 10 - using QHY9S, FW2, plus QHY5l-2...

In the past Used a QHY8 and also a QHY5 guider, also without issues.

I have know drivers of various types to cause issues when:

there is a corrupt Windows Profile (almost impossible to fix - better to create a new profile!)

There is flaky Ram installed - also hard to diagnose without the right tools.

Works fine on my self built clone desktop, and 2 HP laptops...

i was being a little unfair, both my QHY's have been really great value for me. i do wish that i could run them both through theskyx without having to use the ASCOM driver though

I've only ever used ASCOM Aidan. Just curious what benefits you had from native drivers/SDK?

No benefits really this is the first time I have had third party software driving my camera so I have had no need to use the ascom driver in the past. It was more that I had everything set up and working then as soon as I start imaging my guiding stopped. Tbh, I didn't even think of using the ascom driver until Colin mentioned it

Ah, ok. With Maxim and Sequence Generator ASCOM has always worked so well with my 9, was just curious. Hopefully it'll do the right thing for you in TS.

When I bought my QHY11 and used the native drivers from QHY (that time they were not as good as everyone knows) I had help from Craig Stark (PHD), Dr Qui and our venerable Theo (Gama) and solved all my issues when I used the ASCOM driver - no more probs using with a Lodestar in an OAG.

Better check that out again as I have'nt use the gear in 2 years since!!

HTH
Cheers
Bill
