Astrofest Helix

This one is still a work in progress. I've spent most of this week trying to learn PI processing and get the right processes in the correct order. I'm not there yet as evidenced by the noise and vertical banding however I'm pleased with the progress I'm making.

This is about 6 hours LRGB over multiple nights at Astrofest using the SN10 and QSI. I've also got some Ha and OIII data that I haven't incorporated at this stage.

That looks very nice. Heaps of details. Can even see that little side on galaxy in the nebulosity at 5 o'clock. Top shot.

That's a beauty Peter lots of detail there, even the ripples in the faint outer shell. Good job!

Really excellent data there Peter. Really showing what your new scope can do and its a keeper giving really nice details.
Love the small galaxies in the background

That's a heck of a lot of depth and outer detail for no NB Peter. Will be keen to see final image. Be good to tame the granularity in the background once you have all the data in. Plenty of PI options there if need be.

I really like this last image and I'm amazed at the number of very faint stars you have captured, especially those bounded by the helix itself

Things I'd work on....

Stars look rather monochromatic and oddly fuzzy.

More H-alpha data will give you the outer faint bow-shock shells.

It's a good helix for sure...but maybe a "B+" rather than an "A"

Thanks for the feedback Peter. Can you elaborate on what you mean by "oddly fuzzy"?

Looks like a good first couple of revisions, Peter. You should learn a lot playing with the NB integration.

I've been playing with this some more today including adding some Ha data to the Luminance. Hopefully this version is less monochromatic and not oddly fuzzy.
