Does anyone know if this sort of damage would be covered under warrantee? I have no idea how this happened, none of my family is owning up to it and when I left it lastnight it was working 100% I came home from work to find it like it.
If not can anyone recomend somewhere that can fix it?

I hate to say it, but that looks dropped or thumped. You'd, IMHO, have Buckleys of convincing the manufacturer that it "just happened".
If you GENTLY flex the display do you hear a crunching noise at all? Is the glass itself damaged? If not, it may be a screen ribbon cable issue - in which case you may have a better case....
The fact that you have black "blobs" indicates that you have lost LC fluid, which along with the pixel electrodes sits in between two layers of glass. It's all very fragile, so even closing the screen lid by pushing down on one side only instead of from the middle of the top edge will twist and crack this glass. Slamming the screen shut will also do it.

Its a long shot but by any chance did you buy a extended warranty or Carepaq for the laptop. Some do cover accedental damage.
Another option is to check your home and content policy for accedental damage, you maybe able to lodge a claim via this method. This would mean that you need to get a repaire quote from the latop manufacturer.
you dont know that for certain it may have been acidently dropped or the hammer may have accidently hit the screem .. Just kidding. As I said it was a longshot. I know there are some extended warrantiy services now that provide Accidental coverage. This is asside from many specific Laptop insurance policies that are now available. Also you can add your laptop as a portable asset to your insurance policy, and some of these policies cover your for damge or loss worldwide for such portable assets. But usualy if damge occurs during holidays your better of claiming such loss or damge from Travel insurance as this will not effect your home and contects premiums.
