SW Discovery Mount

Just bought a Skywatcher Discovery Alt Alz Mount but having issues getting it to work
Its on Synscan version 4.37
When I switch it on it says it is getting no response from both axis
After pressing escape numerous times I can get into set up the location , date , time etc but upon checking settings find it forgets the time just set ?
When I try and do a Star alignment it says that it is not available and so not able to get the Goto to work
Any ideas ? Or is the Discovery mount just a rubbish mount ?
Have to say so far not at al impressed with Skywatcher

I'd say the one you have is a dud. I have an altaz Skywatcher with same firmware and it works... but yes SW can be spotty quality-wise.

Its a bit premature to say that so far you are not impressed with SW; you
can get a Merc or Rolls Royce lemon. SW products are very widely used in this community, and bring decent equipment into an affordable price bracket.
Their QC is not as good as the Japanese, but their prices are far lower.
I have no connection with SW whatsoever, apart from having owned quite
few of their products.

take it back if you just bought it from a dealer - it should work. in general, most skywatcher problems can be traced back to the cable that connects the mount and the handset and your symptoms suggest that there may be a connection issue like that.

It won't be as good as a $20,000 mount, but I have an ancient Celestron of the same general type and it does the job surprisingly well - would expect that the Skywatcher will be similarly effective when you get it going.
