Fairly faint and obscure stuff

This was an attempt to get RCW 87 and RCW 88 in the same frame but unfortunately I stuffed it up a bit and RCW 88 is chopped off on the left. A faster scope such as what Jase is using would probably be better for these objects.

Cheers

Steve

Nice one Steve. The obscure stuff is still interesting. Good for bigger scopes like yours.

Thanks Kevin. And there's generally a lot more of it. One of the difficulties is pinpointing locations because most of the catalogs don't plot this stuff.

Cheers

Interesting field, Steve. Certainly challenging with a slow scope!

I'm delighted that the latest revision of Stellarium has included RCW and LBN catalogs!

Good to hear. I'll have to get a copy.

Yes I've had several tweaks in the last few hours. I think it's about as good as I can get it now but ideally another few hours of exposure (particularly Ha) would be useful.

Pretty cool at that focal length Steve. How do you normally do your planning? When I was imaging at 2900mm FL with the 12.5" RCOS, I would use SkyX place photo feature. You grab a low res jpg of the area you want to image and import it into SkyX. Takes a little getting use to matching up stars between the image and thesky but once done, you've got a fantastic colour reference where you can visually see the composition against your FoV and of course select a guide star if you've got a rotator in place.

It may help you define the composition and framing better. Make sure you don't just select the default SkyX equipment types for the FoV. Match it precisely using plate solve information. That way you can be assured that the FoV in SkyX is exactly the same as what your imaging system delivers.

Thanks Jase. My planning is generally pretty haphazard. In this case I used a centre RA and Dec supplied by a UK friend of mine in his catalog of unusual objects that I use quite a bit. I should have checked it out a bit better. Thanks for the tip. I'll try that in future.

Thanks Ross. I have a huge list of obscure objects sent to me by a UK colleague. I'll never to able to get through more than a small fraction of them.
