The Southern Pleiades Cluster IC2602

IC 2602, also known as the Southern Pleiades, is an open cluster in the constellation Carina. It was discovered by Abbe Lacaille in 1751 from South Africa. The cluster is at a distance of about 479 light-years away from Earth and can be seen with the naked eye.

A neat 100 subs at 30 seconds each. Bintel 8" F4 Newtonian, Baader MPCC MKIII, Pentax K-5 using ISO 1600.

On the cluster war path Kevin. The symmetry to this open cluster is very aesthetic. Great star colours. Good job

you are nailing the open clusters at the moment Kevin, you're really got the star colours showing nicely!

I'd not have thought that this one could look so pretty, given that the bright stars truly are all of a hue, but the variation in brightness and the few tiny orange twinklers in the background do the trick. The tantalizing glimpse of NGC 2669 at the left adds interest. Great!

Thanks Russ. It's an easy target. Big and bright.

Thanks M&T. I didn't notice the little cluster to the left otherwise I may have adjusted the framing.

Nice and simple Kevin. Beats all that technicolor stuff hands down.

Thanks Geoff. Dunno if it beats technical stuff, but it certainly is easier to do.

That's a gorgeous widefield Kevin. Love the colour of those bright blue stars.

I wonder if there is reflection nebula in there or is this just a group of blue stars? I assume blue stars are super hot and bright.

Greg.
