EOS utilities on virtual machine

Thought I would split this out from my small form factor thread.

I am looking to use my modded 350D using the likes of EOS utilities, I understand the limitation of the 350D being a 32 bit OS and to that end I have Distro Astro running on an Intel NUC with a virtual machine under Virtualbox with Windows XP 32 bit running on it.

I have managed to install and run EOS utils on it and it will connect with the camera but the connection is a bit flaky. If you take a shot it does not download it nor save it to the card on the camera and the EOS utilities interface locks up.

Has anyone had this working on any similar sort of configuration? The main thing I want to be able to do within the limitations of my camera is to drag the images away immediately they are taken and store them on my NAS in the house.
