Casino Lismore Kyogle

Casino, Lismore, Kyogle
I would like to contact other amateur astronomers in this area.
Is anyone interested in getting together for a local monthly viewing night?

Welcome Glen, thanks for your article! I'll put it on the site ASAP.

I know there are a few from up that way.. CoombellKid I think is from around that area? And of course Alex above.

I hope you find some others near you.. this hobby is much more rewarding when you can share it with someone.

Welcome to the site Glen. Thanks for the nebula tour through my scope @ Astrofest on Friday evening - very enjoyable and very informative. I might be keen for a get together down your way. I have discussed the idea with Rob (Coombellkid - the other sillouette present at your nebula tour ) of coming down your way. I normally travel out to Leyburn which is exactly 2 hours from my front door and you guys are only another half an hour on top of that from what I can gather (in another direction of course). Make sure you advertise anything you organise on the forum - you might get a few of us from Brisvegas venture down your way.

I am on 200 acres set in Uwingah State forrest, 30 klmsto my North is the town of Tabulam with maybe 12 street lights, the closest neighbour goes to bed at Sun set but if he is up only has a computer going..to the South forrest until Grafton 100klms away by road...so its dark. I can read the newpaper headlines in starlight. But it is ruff and I could only offer camping and my shack.. which you are welcome to but 3 dogs live with me so you can imagine it probably stinks. There is some ruins of a stone shack on the hill behind me which would be ideal but I have not fixed it after it was burnt down 3 years ago, but I had near a footy feild cleared around it so when rebuilt it would be safe from another fire.
But my point is it is a very dark site by any standards I feel.

Alex thats one pretty piece of country you live in up there

I had the chance to visit toonumbar a while back .
http://www.kyogleweb.com.au/toonretreat/maps.htm
Up a little valley in the richmond range .. well it does have a little golf course and the dam is stocked with bass .. what I don't know is how dark this place is at night .. its at the end of a dirt road ( 35 ks) with very little if any permanent residents.. the managers of the small accomadation facility I do know are/were at the time very happy to help people enjoy there stay .no matter what there needs were.... there is a lot of space there .from bris its not a monster drive either
I wan't to go get lost up there for a week or two soon so will have a
good look about .

take care ns

If you like Bass I beieve the best Bass fishing in all the Eastern seaborad can be found in the Clarence River nearby if you like fishing. I met a guy down the river who told me his group throw in 1000 fingerlings a year to make sure it stays the best

Hi I'm here! sorry missed this post. I'm south of Casino 25kms in Coombell
population 11, soon to be 12. Great little village with no street lights most
in bed early and live too far away to be annoying. But we do have trains
running trough.

regards,CS

Rob

PS: Glen, with the few we have here and the odd local your nabbing we
should be able to get a nice group together.

A little crowded for me and it sounds as if the over population problems have reached you , move out to the bush while you still can .
I am looking so forward to meeting a real life astronomer it will be my first (other than meeting shopkeepers who are astronomers which does not count for a social thing)
We are very fortunate with our sky, little light polution and little particle polution (not counting the burn offs and occassional fires) bit moist but on the balance not too bad. That rain has left me not being able to burn off any more so it would have been better if that last fire went thru. I start a new job a lawn mower and it is on for 6 months.. unpaid.. dam grass.

It costs me enough in Petrol as it is, $70 per week just to get my son to
pre-school each week and thats only three days worth. I live far enough
away from da big smokes for the big smokes not to be annoying. I wouldn't
want to walk it

Well we're looking to form a regular group, Glen seems to have managed
to pick up a few local stragglers, and there looks to be a couple on ISS
that live local-ish.

Pretty much the same here. the bush is a great place to be for astronomy

You can still burn, just need a permit # from your local RFS, but grass
burn offs they might not like that, but we got an ok to do a section late
last week so you might be alright. Apart from that get a horse they work a
treat, you'll be amazed at how quick they chomp it down and the grass
around here reaches 2m plus.

Hope to see you at the next get together

regards,CS sunny days
