Teamviewer to Monitor SGP

My obs is in my backyard, about 20 metres from my backdoor. I would like to be able to keep an eye on SGP and Metaguide from inside the house. Teamviewer seems to be ideal. What is involved in getting it running between the obs laptop and the computer in the house (or the networked TV with say a stick computer plugged into it) other than downloading Teamviewer? I do have a signal from my wifi router available in the obs but have not 'tested' connectivity from there.
I'd love to be able to just switch over from the football game to SGP and back.

Teamviewer is as easy as downloading and using it. The only setup that I would recommend would be is creating an account so that you can add each pc to the account that you intend on using, and then the passwords will stay constant if you set one.

If possible,I would also recommend a Ethernet connection, unless your wifi is really good in the obsy, teamviewer will be really unresponsive to use!

The wifi signal strength at my desk in the obs is -70 dBm.

Teamviewer is a little more convenient to run with internet access from your network, but you can run it on an isolate LAN (ethernet or wireless) ok. There is a setting to tell it to run without the internet - there was a thread on here some time ago talking about pros and cons from memory.

Why not windows remote desktop? Plenty of 3rd party client applications out there too and it's pretty solid and easy to use.

Agree totaly with ethernet connection. I ran an ethernet powerline adapter out to mine and it was much more reliable as one might expect.

I am using Windows Desltop remote and an Ethernet cable. I find it very reliable and easy to use.

Its in Windows Accessories in the apps list in Wins 10.

I use teamviewer over gigabit Ethernet to my observatory 60 metres from my house. It works brilliantly. If you have a fast network connection from your obs to your house either by Ethernet or wifi you will either hardly or won't be able to tell that you are not working on the remote computer. Certainly set the "allow LAN connections only" check box. Using a LAN connection you will also be able to set the highest image quality. The internet is totally unnecessary in your situation and using it will only slow things down.
All you need to know to establish the connection is the IP address of the remote computer. It is simple to set up.

I've been using Teamviewer with a local observatory laptop (now a win7 Compaq) for many years to control my C11 / NEQ6 and spectroscope.
This involves AstroArt (three cameras including guiding)/ EQMOD/CdC etc.
No issues, no drama.
I use a Cat5 network cable between the observatory laptop and the office PC.

Just finished a Teamviewer test between the observatory laptop and the house system and it works just fine. I ran SGP in the observatory and was able to monitor and control it from the house. I believe i have to activate the Event Notification System in SGP and upgrade my license - is that a correct assumption. I would like audio alerts on the house system but do not need emails etc. I need to read about that. So the no cost option looks workable. I assume this is going out on the Net and back, is that correct? I would prefer within my local wifi lan but i guess that is harder to setup?

Great to hear it's working. I don't think it should be going via the internets... it should only be local.

Click on extras, select options, choose lan connections exclusively. That is all that is required. No internet required.

Ran a long narrowband session last night using Teamviewer to control the observatory system. No issues at all and i was able to see SGP moving through the workload, and edit the sequence, from the warmth and comfort of the house. Did most of the shutdown process from the house, including shutting down the obs PC, and only had to go outside to close the roof. This is a great result and Teamviewer is highly commended as a simple and free solution.
