First Light with canon 350D in my guidescope

I couldn't reach focus with my main imaging scope 8" F/4, so i tested it on my 80mm F/11 guidescope. Not a great scope, cheapo meade refractor but was abit desperate last night. Imaging at F/11 Bit of moon glow got in the way in the end. Never had i imaged at this scale.

Canon 350D unmodded . No noise reduction. Baader 2" UHC-S Filter used. The UHC-S Filter makes a great difference even on unmodded DSLR. Darkens background dramatically and enchanced the neb glow.

Consist of 9 x 4minutes exposure at ISO 800 stacked in registax. processed in ps cs2.

I also took some flats (using scotts laptop screen method ) and darks both in .jpg but couldnt work out how to subtract it in IRIS.

Thats very good for a guide scope shot Eric..
Don`t know why they don`t make commercial newts suitiable for prime focus work without modding?..

Very nice Eric, colour seems good; no salmon pink etc.
I do not have 'images plus' so I am totally clueless about what it can do.
The image you have would certainly benefit from flat field reduction though, and I am wondering what effect you could get by adding your flat frames to the light frame as a layer in photoshop, setting the blend mode to 'difference' and playing around with opacity (maybe about 10-15%) before flattening or merge down? might work; worth a try?

Hi Eric I think you should think about the great result you got there . I purchased a $200 80 x 400 guide scope and wow to think that it gave as good as a result as it did blew me away. My leaning now is 80mm triplet for capture and 6inch reflector or 150ar as guide scope.
But if your mount is working spot on every scope is a good scope

rich colours, a good image there. The UHCS really shines on red emission nebulae. Photoncollector (Paul) had to mod. his 12 inch scope too. He measured carefully how much back focus he would need then cut that amount off the rear of the tube. Sadly a lot of these sccopes were made only with viewing in mind not photography, but they can be modified.

Fortunatley I can get the 300d on the 150sn and get focus but no filters without further mod's. Yes I forgot to say I found out first night I could not focus with stuff at hand so thats how I gave the 80 a run.
